Dental radiology is the branch of dentistry that deals with diagnostic imaging procedures applicable to the hard and soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial region, and to other structures that are relevant for the proper assessment of oral conditions. Dental radiology is the core diagnostic modality in dentistry, that served many purposes such as in diagnosing, determining the type of treatment and in addition, to help in evaluating the process and success of treatment.

At the Faculty of Dentistry, Hasanuddin University, the study of Dental Radiology is supervised by the Dental Radiology Department, given at the undergraduate (S-1) and profession levels. Education on Dental Radiology is presented in the form of interactive lectures and CSL (clinical laboratory skills) regarding the description of maxillofacial radioanatomy, dental radiographic techniques and principles in interpreting various radiographic images and determining their radiodiagnosis.

Dental Radiology Department at the Dental and Oral Hospital, Faculty of Dentistry, Hasanuddin University provides 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional radiographic examination services for the head and neck area which include: 2D intra oral radiography (periapical, bitewing and occlusal), extra oral 2D (panoramic and cephalometrics), and Cone Beam Computed Tomography 3D (CBCT).
