FKG-RSGM Unhas Holds 2019 National Dental Health Month

The National Dental Health Month (BKGN) 2019 will be held again in Makassar. The activity begins today, Friday (09/13) to Sunday (09/15). BKGN has been carried out for 10 years in a row. This year’s event raised the theme “Smiling Indonesia”.

BKGN 2019 which is located at the Dental Hospital (RSGM) Unhas Jl. Kandea is a collaboration between PT Unilever, the Faculty of Dentistry (FKG) of Hasanuddin University, and RSGM Unhas.

In its report, the chair of the 2019 BKGN committee FKG Unhas drg. Irfan Dammar, Sp.Pros(K) would like to thank the leaders, invited guests and the entire committee of the committee for their time and support so that this event was held.

“This activity was held from 13 to 15 September 2019 with several services including child dental care, dental fillings, tartar removal and tooth extraction for adults,” said drg. Irfan Damar.

All health service activities are carried out free of charge.

“Our target for 3 days is as many as 1000 patients, 700 adult patients and 300 pediatric patients. Thank you also to PT. Unilver because FKG Hasanuddin University is the first place for the implementation of BKGN 2019 from 24 educational institutions in Indonesia,” added drg. Irfan.

Director of RSGM Unhas, drg. A. Tajrin, M. Kes., Sp.BM(K) furthermore explained that although this is an annual activity, this year it was joined with the 63rd Anniversary of Unhas.

“The tenth BKGN is an extraordinary momentum, where the enthusiasm of the community to participate in activities is very high. In the past we were very difficult to find patients, but now we sometimes refuse because of the large number of patients,” explained drg. Tajrin.

The next speech was from the Dean of FKG Unhas drg. Muhammad Ruslin, M. Kes., Ph.D., Sp.BM (K)., Who explained the commitment of FKG Unhas to improve the degree of dental and oral health, especially in South Sulawesi.

“Based on the results of research that the prevalence of health and mouth in the South Sulawesi region is still very high. This is a challenge and our responsibility in the future, how to reduce the prevalence rate,” explained drg. Ruslin.

This activity was also attended by representatives of PT Unilever Indonesia, Tbk, drg. Ratu Mirah Afifah, GCClindent., MDSc., Head of South Sulawesi Provincial Health Office Dr. dr. H. Bachtiar Baso, M. Kes., And Vice Rector for Academic Affairs in Hasanuddin University Prof. Dr. Ir. Muh. Restu, MP.

Prof. Muh. Restu who was present representing the Rector of Unhas explained that the university highly appreciates activities like this.

“This is clear evidence of community service, which is one of the inseparable mandates in the tri dharma of higher education,” said Prof. Restu.

The BKGN activity was officially opened which was marked by the shooting of 10 balloons as a symbol of 10 types of problems in the mouth that had to be solved.

The event was closed with a mass toothbrush by Indonesian Elementary School students.

Also present was the Chairperson of the South Sulawesi Region PDGI Dr. drg. Asdar Gani, M. Kes., Representative of the Major Ladokgi (L). drg. Nurung, Sp.Pros. Prof. drg. Mansjur Nasir, Ph.D., and Prof. Dr. drg. Bahruddin Thalib, M. Kes., Sp.Pros (K), representatives from the FKG Dean of UMI, representatives from the Koramil 1408-04 Bontoala, FKG Unhas Lecturers and even FKG Unhas retirement lecturers also attended and were involved in this activity as well as academic community FKG Unhas.
