The Community Service Team for the Partnership Program – Community (PPMU-PK-M) Faculty of Dentistry (FKG) Hasanuddin University (Unhas) held Dental and Oral Health Education with Interactive methods for mentally retarded students at Special School (SLBN) 1 Pangkep, Kec.Minasa Tene Pangkep Regency.
Prof. Dr. drg. Asmawati Amin, M.Kes as the Team Leader explained that one of the children with special needs was mentally retarded. Mental retardation is a developmental disorder of mental retardation or mental retardation or idiot.
Based on various research results, it is stated that the dental health of mentally retarded children is generally poor and has several dental health problems, especially caries and periodontal disease.
“Based on this, we conduct outreach and counseling on dental and oral health through education with interactive media in the hope that the methods provided can be useful and have a good effect on awareness and behavior towards dental and oral health of mentally retarded students,” said Prof. Asmawati
He continued that this activity also provided education to the teachers who are an extension of the health team to always remind the students of this school the importance of maintaining healthy teeth and mouth so that they can always live a healthy and quality life.
