The Dean of FKG Unhas Prof. Muhammad Ruslin, drg., M.Kes., Ph.D., Sp.BM (K) was present as a speaker at “The N.V.O.S Study Week” activity. The activity starts at 20.00 WITA virtually through the Zoom meeting application, Thursday (12/5).
N.V.O.S (Nederlandse Vereniging voor Orthodontische Studie) is one of the oldest scientific associations in the Netherlands which was founded in 1946 by a number of dentists. The aim of this association is to promote research results and disseminate orthodontic knowledge.
This association also regularly holds scientific meetings with the aim of keeping up with the latest developments in society and providing the latest conditions in scientific research.
On this occasion, Prof. Ruslin was present as a resource person with the topic “Stability Counterclockwise Surgical Advancement Mandibular Deficiency in Patients with High Mandibular Plane Angle: Dental, Skeletal and Surgical Aspects”.
In his presentation, Prof. Ruslin explained that facial morphology with mandibular deficiency is one of the common types of dentofacial deformity that requires orthognathic surgery treatment in Caucasian populations, such as in the Netherlands.
In the orthodontic literature, this deformity is classified as class II which consists of two very different types of deformity namely the short low-angle face type and the high mandibular plane angle (MPA) type.
These two types of deformity differ, not only in terms of facial appearance, but also in facial behavior after orthodontic surgical treatment.
In progress results in convergent mandibular surgery, resulting in a bite with a clockwise jaw movement that increases the height of the front face.
In contrast, the advancement of mandibular surgery with a divergent type with a tendency for an open bite leads to a counterclockwise rotation, closing the open bite and reducing the anterior facial height.
At the end of his presentation, Prof. Ruslin apologized because if this activity was followed offline, but because of the pandemic problem, he gave the material via online.
