Dental radiology is the branch of dentistry that deals with diagnostic imaging procedures for oral and maxillofacial hard and soft tissues, and for other structures relevant to the proper assessment of oral conditions. Dental radiology is a core diagnostic modality in dentistry for various purposes such as assisting in establishing a diagnosis, determining the type of treatment and in addition, to assist in evaluating the process and success of treatment.
At the Faculty of Dentistry, Hasanuddin University, the science of Dental Radiology is under the Department of Dental Radiology and is given at the undergraduate (S-1) and professional stages of education. Education on Dental Radiology is presented in the form of interactive lectures and CSL (clinical skill laboratory) regarding maxillofacial radioanatomy images, radiography taking techniques and principles in interpreting various radiographic images and determining radiodiagnoses.
The Department of Dental Radiology at the Dental and Oral Hospital, Faculty of Dentistry, Hasanuddin University provides 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional radiographic examination services for the head and neck area which include: 2D intra-oral radiography (periapical, bitewing and occlusal), extra-oral 2D (panoramic). and cephalometrics), and Cone Beam Computed Tomography 3D (CBCT).
