Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology Specialist Education Program

Welcome to Oral and Maxillofacial Specialiast Program, Faculty of Dentistry, Hasanuddin University

The Oral and Maxillofacial Specialist Program at Faculty of Dentistry of Hasanuddin University is a 36-month tuition-based postgraduate certificate program. This rigorous and intensive three-year radiology and imaging didactic training program is designed to trains a professional, reliable and trusted oral and maxillofacial radiologist. With a student-centered learning system and accompanied by teaching staff who have qualifications and experience according to their field of expertise, this program will develop education, research, and community service based on the vision and mission as well as the excellence of the program.

The curriculum consists of a didactic program including core courses (theory and practice) in basic, intermediate and advanced level of oral and maxillofacial radiology courses providing the knowledge base and analytical skills needed by the oral maxillofacial radiologist as well as the life-long learning abilities to continue professional growth throughout his/her career. Educational teaching materials include basic radiology (radiation physics, radiation biology, and radiation protection principles), bioethics and legal principles, as well as management of radiology service implementation, basic to advanced oral and maxillofacial radiographic techniques, interpretation of oral and maxillofacial radiology, to application and further development in the utilization of radiography and imaging modalities following the excellence of the study program in the field of soft tissue imaging.

The students will actively participate in patient care in the Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology Unit in Hasanuddin University Dental Hospital as a major teaching hospital equipped with basic to advanced oral and maxillofacial radiography modalities including CBCT Scan-3D. They will also compile case reports and conduct discussions or seminars on various cases found at the Hasanuddin University Dental Hospital under the supervision of a clinical supervisor.The students will also obtain clinical experience in the interpretation of oral and maxillofacial (head and neck) using the others contemporary imaging modalities such as MRI, CT Scan, and Ultrasound, on a rotating, through station activities, case conferences and seminars in network hospitals. They are also expected to participate in research and scholarly activity, present their findings at national or international meetings, and organize social service activities in the scientific context of oral and maxillofacial radiology that can be useful for the community.

Finally, we hope that the Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology Specialist education program at the Faculty of Dentistry, Hasanuddin University, can significantly produce graduates who can benefit society.

 

The Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology Specialist Education Program was officially opened as a dental specialist education program at the Faculty of Dentistry, Hasanuddin University, on October 7, 2021, based on the Decree of the Rector of Hasanuddin University Number 606b/UN4.1/KEP/2021. This program is the third Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology Specialist Education Program in Indonesia and the seventh dental specialist education program held at the Faculty of Dentistry, Hasanuddin University. This program officially accepts new students for the even semester of the 2021/2022 academic year as many as six people from elevent registrants who come from lecturer and clinician backgrounds.

This opening study program was motivated by the increasing need and accessibility of the community to dental specialist health services in the last decade in line with increasing public awareness of the importance of comprehensive oral and dental health. An increase in the quantity of demand for dental specialist services has also led to an increase in the application of technology for various examination modalities to support the quality of dental and oral health services, including radiological examinations as the main supporting examination in establishing the diagnosis and management of various cases in the field of dentistry. On the other hand, the number of dentists specializing in oral and maxillofacial radiology in Indonesia still does not meet these needs, especially in eastern Indonesia. So, the Faculty of Dentistry, Hasanuddin University, is committed to continuing to show its magnitude in creating human resources who can develop science and technology and apply it in all fields of dentistry, including in Oral and Maxillofacial RadiologyWith the excellence of a study program that focuses on radiological and imaging diagnostic of pathological in the soft tissue of the oral maxillofacial and the stomatognathic system, the Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology Education Study Program, Faculty of Dentistry, Hasanuddin University, is ready to produce reliable and trustworthy oral and maxillofacial radiologist.

To be an oral and maxillofacial radiology specialist educational program with maritime-continent based that excels in terms imaging oral maxillofacial and stomatognathic system as a referral center for best quality and diagnostic acceptable radiographic and imaging services.

  • Conducting research that focuses on the excellence of the study program in the application and utilization of radiology and imaging technology independently and innovatively;
  • Carrying out the community service with an approach to the use and risk of ionizing radiation and other imaging technologies for the welfare of individuals and society.
